JOHN NEWCOMBE

John qualified from the Royal Veterinary College London in 1968. He is the founding partner of the practice which he started on his own as a sole practitioner in 1976.

John works almost exclusively on the  equine reproduction  side of the practice. He is one of Britain’s most prominent equine stud vets and is an expert in this field. He has a special interest in Embryo Transfer and successfully performs the procedure at the Equine  Fertility Clinic routinely throughout the breeding season. In addition to every stud season since 1976 in the UK, John has also worked for seven stud seasons in Queensland, Australia in their summer (October to December).

Not only is John a well respected and experienced vet, he is also a prolific scientific author! Over 50 peer reviewed scientific papers written by John on all aspects of equine reproduction have been published to date.

John’s major discoveries and developments include:

Bacterial endometritis caused premature luteolysis
Pioneer use of Oxytocin as part of post mating therapy
First to describe the normal bacterial flora of the mare’s  genital tract (1972)
Site of  conception relative to previous pregnancy (1978)
Described luteinised follicles (1993)
Identical triplets(1995)
Use of Buserelin in dioestrus mares (1996)
Use of intravaginal progesterone device (1997)
First foal by UK  frozen semen (1993)
Quadruplet Pregnancy (2002)

When not working, John is a keen hill walker and gardener. John, like most vets, has his own pets which include 4 dogs, 3 cats, ducks and, unsurprisingly, lots of brood mares! These 40 or so brood mares provide the basis of a pool of recipient mares for Embryo Transfer.

JENNY EAST

Jenny qualified in 1987 from the Royal Veterinary College, London. She saw practice with John in 1985 and 1986 and realised what a superb opportunity this was to learn from one of the most dedicated, enthusiastic and pioneering equine reproduction vets in the world.  She joined  the practice, straight from College in 1987, and became a partner in 1992. Jenny  is involved in all areas of the practice but has a particuar interest in  equine stud medicine. Her expertise in this field is such that she travels to many equine studs covering a very  large area .  Her reproduction expertise has  also  taken  her  to  the
Southern Hemisphere to help in a Queensland Equine Practice during their stud season for two seasons.   As well as being an expert in stud medicine, Jenny  is a very experienced all round  equine vet with many years of experience.  She is one of the CHAPS (Coloured Horse and Pony Society) Stallion grading vets and has also assisted in their grading processes for many years. She has also acted as part of a team of Veterinary Inspectors invited to Jordan by Princess Alia and sponsored by Emirates Airlines in connection with 80 km desert endurance rides in 1996 and a 120 km ride in 1998.
